Aurora Cannabis Brand vs Ashario Dispensary: Disambiguation & Buyer's Guide

Updated May 2026. When Ontario shoppers search "Aurora Cannabis," they're usually looking for one of three different things: the Licensed Producer brand Aurora Cannabis Inc., the town of Aurora in York Region, or a dispensary located in Aurora that actually carries Aurora-branded products. This guide clears up the confusion and explains exactly how to buy Aurora Cannabis products in Ontario, including at Ashario Cannabis in Aurora at 15114 Yonge Street.

Aurora Cannabis Inc. is a Licensed Producer (LP) headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, and one of Canada's largest federally licensed cannabis cultivators. Ashario Cannabis is an Ontario retail dispensary chain with 4 locations, including one physically located in the Town of Aurora, that sells Aurora-brand products alongside other LPs. They are not the same company, but they intersect at the retail shelf.

Aurora Cannabis Brand vs Ashario Dispensary: The 30-Second Answer

Aurora Cannabis Inc. is a Canadian Licensed Producer that grows, processes, and packages cannabis under brands like Aurora Drift, San Rafael '71, and Whistler Cannabis Co. Ashario Cannabis is an Ontario-licensed retail dispensary that stocks Aurora products on its shelves. To buy Aurora-brand cannabis legally in Ontario, you must purchase from an authorized retailer like Ashario Cannabis. Aurora the producer does not sell directly to Ontario consumers.

Here's the simple breakdown:

• Aurora Cannabis Inc. Licensed Producer (LP). Cultivates flower, manufactures vapes, pre-rolls, edibles.
• Aurora (the town): Municipality in York Region, Ontario, north of Toronto along Yonge Street.
• Ashario Cannabis Aurora: Retail dispensary at 15114 Yonge St in Aurora, Ontario. Sells Aurora-brand products and 40+ other LPs.

If your search intent was "where to buy Aurora cannabis products near me in Ontario," the answer is any authorized AGCO-licensed retailer, and if you're in York Region, the closest match is the Ashario Aurora store. What Is Aurora Cannabis Inc. (The Licensed Producer)?

Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX: ACB, NASDAQ: ACB) is a Canadian publicly traded cannabis company founded in 2013 and headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. As one of the largest Licensed Producers in Canada under the Cannabis Act, Aurora cultivates indoor cannabis at multiple federally licensed facilities.

Aurora operates a portfolio of consumer brands, not just one. The main sub-brands Ontario shoppers will encounter on Ashario shelves include:

• Aurora Drift: value-tier flower, pre-rolls, and softgels. The most commonly stocked Aurora line in Ontario retail.
• San Rafael '71: premium dried flower line known for cultivars like Tangerine Dream and Pink Kush.
• Whistler Cannabis Co. organic-certified premium flower.
• Daily Special: budget-tier flower and pre-rolls.
• MedReleaf: historically a medical-focused brand, now part of Aurora's portfolio.

Because Aurora is an LP and not a retailer, you cannot walk into an Aurora facility and buy cannabis. To browse what's currently stocked, visit our cannabis product categories.

What Is Ashario Cannabis (The Dispensary)?

Ashario Cannabis is an AGCO-licensed cannabis retailer operating 4 locations across the Greater Toronto Area and York Region. Ashario carries products from over 40 Licensed Producers, including Aurora Cannabis Inc. and is open 7 AM to 11 PM daily, 365 days a year. Learn more about Ashario Cannabis and our store network.

Ashario's 4 Ontario locations:

• Ashario Aurora: 15114 Yonge St, Aurora, ON L4G 1M2 | +1-905-503-6770
• Ashario Finch & Dufferin: 1111A Finch Ave W Unit 1, North York, ON M3J 2P7 | +1-647-368-7722

• Ashario Thornton: 239 Barrie St, Thornton, ON L0L 2N0 | +1-249-733-9333

The key distinction: Aurora makes the product, Ashario sells it. If you've seen an Aurora Drift pre-roll, a San Rafael '71 eighth, or an Aurora softgel and want to know where to buy it in person, an authorized retailer is your only legal option. Our budtenders frequently get the question "do you carry Aurora?", and the answer is yes, depending on current availability.

Aurora Cannabis Products Available at Ashario

Aurora Cannabis Inc. supplies several product categories to the Ontario market, and Ashario's inventory rotates. As of 2026, the Aurora product types most commonly available at Ashario locations include dried flower (3.5g, 7g, 14g, 28g formats), pre-rolls (0.5g and 1g singles and multi-packs), 510-thread vape cartridges, and ingestible extracts/softgels.

Specific Aurora product lines worth knowing:

Aurora Drift

The value tier. Ontario shoppers see Aurora Drift in 3.5g flower jars, pre-roll multi-packs (typically 3x0.5g or 10x0.35g), and 510 vape cartridges. Cultivars rotate but commonly include indica-leaning and hybrid options. This is the line most frequently recommended for budget-conscious buyers who still want LP-grade consistency.

San Rafael '71

Aurora's premium dried flower brand. Higher THC ranges (typically 20 to 28%), curated cultivar selection, and more attention to terpene preservation. San Rafael flower is what our budtenders point to when customers ask for an "upgrade from Drift."

Whistler Cannabis Co.

Organic-certified, small-batch dried flower. Limited availability, but the line carries a reputation for hand-trimmed bud and slow-cure processing.

Aurora Cannabis vs Dispensary: Why Shoppers Get Confused

The "Aurora cannabis vs dispensary" confusion stems from three overlapping searches: people looking for the LP brand, people looking for a cannabis store in the Town of Aurora, and people who think "Aurora Cannabis" is a chain of dispensaries (it is not). Aurora Cannabis Inc. operates zero retail stores in Ontario: all recreational cannabis retail in the province is operated by independently licensed dispensaries like Ashario.

Three common search scenarios:

1. "Aurora cannabis near me": Usually means: a dispensary in or near the Town of Aurora. Answer: Ashario Aurora at 15114 Yonge St.
2. "Aurora cannabis products": Means: products made by Aurora the LP. Answer: shop them at any authorized Ontario retailer.
3. "Aurora cannabis store": Ambiguous. Could mean either. Aurora Cannabis Inc. doesn't run stores, so it almost always resolves to a dispensary located in Aurora, Ontario.

For a more thorough disambiguation, our companion article on Aurora Cannabis Brand Disambiguation walks through each scenario with examples.
